Matteo Correggia
The Correggia farm was established in 1935, Matteo Correggia took up the management in 1985 from his father and began a quest to put Roero on the map. His first releases in 1987 of Nebbiolo Val dei Preti, Barbera d'Alba Marun, and Anthos will be remembered as very important moments in the history and development of Roero. Roero is typically known for the production of Arneis in the sandy soils just north of Alba, but in Italy, Correggia is known for its reds. Matteo knew the mineral sands of Roero would produce a unique expression of Nebbiolo worthy of anything coming from Barolo and Barbaresco. The family estate grew to 20Ha by the end of the 90's and solidified Corregia as one of Langhe's best red wine producers.
Matteo’s untimely passing in 2001 meant his wife, Ornella, had to bring the family together and continue in Matteo's footsteps. At first, many producers came to help the family because of their close ties and great respect for Matteo; Giorgio Rivetti from La Spinetta, Elio Altare and many others assisted in the transition. However, today Ornella has formed a close knit and skilled team including Luca Rostagno. Together they have fulfilled many of Matteo's dreams for the estate and have built on the reputation of making handcrafted, high quality wines representative of Roero.
